Bolsonaro has been detained after authorities determined he posed a concrete flight risk while under domestic detention.

The one-time leader was found guilty of planning a military coup in September and given more than 27 years in incarceration, but he was staying under home detention pending court reviews.

High Court Judge Alexandre de Moraes said the move to detain the septuagenarian politician was a preventative measure after fresh information came to light.

This involved trying to remove his ankle monitor and a call for a public vigil that could enable a possible escape.

Court Filing Details Flight Fears

In a paperwork permitting the arrest, Justice Moraes said information from the centre monitoring the former president's confinement suggested the ex-president's aim to disable the surveillance device to secure accomplishment in his flight.

This, it said, would be assisted by the chaos caused by the gathering called by his son.

His child, Flávio Bolsonaro, who serves as a legislator, called for a assembly of his backers near the former president's residence to take place on Saturday night.

Flávio Bolsonaro wrote on social media on the previous day: Do you plan to struggle for your country, or observe everything from your smartphone there on your couch? I call on you to battle with us."

He said the gathering would be so followers could offer prayers for his well-being and for the restoration of democratic rule in our nation."

Diplomatic Refuge Fears

Part of the magistrate's ruling was the possibility of the former president's transfer to embassies near the dwelling, considering that the probes revealed a history of planning to request asylum through a consular facility", a declaration said.

The legal document highlights that the US embassy in the federal district, Brasilia, is positioned around 13km from the former president's residence.

Global Responses

His judicial problems have drawn the ire of fellow populist conservative United States President President Trump, prompting him to implement a fifty percent tax on goods coming from Brazil.

Bolsonaro is being held in a national police facility in Brazil's capital city and will have a detention review on the next day.

Recent Legal Requests

It was only on last Friday that the ex-leader's attorneys asked the High Court to permit him to fulfill his full incarceration period under home confinement, with electronic monitoring.

They also petitioned that he be authorized to depart his residence for healthcare, saying he required frequent medical attention for respiratory ailments and other illnesses.

Details of Guilty Verdict

The former president was determined responsible of heading a scheme aimed at retaining his authority after he was defeated in the presidential race to his left-wing rival, President Lula.

High Court judges said that he knew of a scheme which included plans to murder Lula and his vice-presidential running mate, Alckmin, and to imprison and murder the presiding judge - the High Court judge who has been managing his judicial proceedings.

The plot was stopped because it couldn't obtain the support of the army and air force commanders. The current president was took office without incident on January 1st, 2023.

But a seven days after, on the eighth of January, numerous Bolsonaro supporters stormed and vandalised public facilities in the national capital, Brazil's capital.

The law enforcement stepped in and around 1,500 people were arrested.

The judges found that the rioters had been incited by Bolsonaro whose scheme, they said, was for the national armed forces to take action, bring back stability and return him to office.

At the period, the legal team called the over 27-year sentence "absurdly excessive.

He was also barred from campaigning for office until the year 2060 - a decade minus two years after the completion of his term.

The former president called the trial a "witch hunt and said it was designed to prevent him running in the 2026 presidential election.
